Phase 1 focuses on developing the process of mental focus through specific techniques like Mindfulness, a form of meditation that helps drivers improve concentration while maintaining a calm heart rate under pressure. Visualization exercises of the circuits are an integral part of the driver’s preparation, with race simulations that mentally prepare them for every single meter of the track and potential scenarios, including weather conditions. Various studies have shown that mindfulness meditation can improve attention and reduce anxiety—critical and dangerous factors for drivers’ performance.
Phase 2 centers on the driver’s ability to control stress and emotional states. Breathing techniques, particularly the asynchronous Colossus METHOD, and the monitoring of physiological responses through biofeedback allow drivers to manage stress levels in real time. Biofeedback has been used in various sports disciplines with great results.
Phase 3 focuses on improving rapid decision-making abilities. Using real simulators, the brain is trained to make quick and accurate decisions. Games and calculation problems are included in Problem Solving to speed up reasoning time to its maximum. Training with simulators significantly enhances decision-making skills under pressure while maintaining safety. Phase 4 involves Psychological Coaching to develop an open mindset, including acceptance of failures as a natural part of the athlete’s journey. Coping techniques are integrated with other phases to help manage stress and frustrations, which can disturb an F1 driver’s focus. Formula 1 is a highly stressful sport, so psychological training improves resilience and stress management.
Phase 5 is about enhancing Spatial Awareness through eye-hand coordination exercises, which improve perception and response to visual stimuli. Virtual Reality (VR) games simulate race situations to enhance analysis/reaction/action times.
Phase 6 focuses on Rhythm and Synchronization, where rhythmic training helps drivers maintain consistent lap times. Synchronization is developed to help drivers interpret their car’s behavior, road conditions, engine sounds, gear shifts, and respond appropriately
Phase 7 covers Recovery and Regeneration. For an F1 driver, mental recovery is a key part of training. Neuro-muscular relaxation exercises, yoga, along with sufficient sleep and an individualized nutrition plan, ensure full mental and physical recovery. Sleep and nutrition are essential for cognitive and physical regeneration, as extensively proven by scientific research.
