Colossus Method

The modern tennis player is an athlete subjected to psychophysical stress, both due to the numerous seasonal competitions and the constant travel around the world. The Colossus METHOD has developed an annual plan that allows the athlete to maintain an extremely high level of performance continuity, minimizing the risk of muscular and joint injury, and preventing inflammatory conditions that could partially affect their rich tournament schedule.
The induced and controlled thermal shock in saline pools, a patented Colossus METHOD project, is an essential and crucial part of training programming and management. Aerobic training sessions such as running, cycling, swimming, and exercises in immersion improve endurance capacity. High-intensity training circuits are essential to simulate match conditions.

The nutritional plan must be rich in complex carbohydrates, lean proteins, and healthy fats to ensure optimal energy and recovery. Anti-inflammatory foods like fruits, vegetables, and omega-3-rich fish are essential. The nutritional plan is individualized, created after an extremely meticulous analysis and anamnesis, combined with differentiated pharmacological management for the entire season.
The choice of fluids varies between training and performance, with electrolytes and isotonic drinks to maintain hydration during long matches and intense training. Vitamins, minerals, branched-chain amino acids (BCAA), and various proteins are provided daily to support recovery and seasonal performance.
The Colossus Method includes a 90-minute continuous daily training session without recovery to ensure an optimal and consistent muscle temperature throughout the training, reducing the risk of muscular and joint injuries to a minimum. Let’s analyze the injuries that most frequently affect tennis players. The shoulder, due to its joint characteristics and continuous movement, is highly prone to joint injuries, muscular and tendon issues, rotator cuff problems, frozen shoulder, impingement syndrome, and labral tears.
Lateral epicondylitis is so common that it has coined the term “tennis elbow.” It is caused by an inflammatory state from the repetitive sports movement, where the wrist and finger extensor muscles send strong vibrations to the lateral epicondyle of the elbow, causing sharp pain that radiates both upwards and downwards.
Wrist injuries include tendinitis, sprains, and fractures, often caused by repetitive use and imperfect execution techniques. The knee can suffer injuries such as patellar tendinitis, iliotibial band syndrome, and meniscal tears due to constant rapid directional changes, intense running, and frequent sprints. Cartilage wears down significantly and must be periodically monitored.
The ankle joint is subjected to significant stress, and intra- and extra-articular sprains are common due to the quick changes in direction and lateral movements typical of tennis, especially on hard surfaces. The back also experiences continuous stress, leading to common lower back pain and intervertebral disc issues caused by twisting and forced extensions during the game.
A potentially season-ending injury is one affecting the hip. The hip, being one of the body’s largest joints, plays a crucial role in stability and mobility during tennis play. Labral tears occur in the acetabular labrum, a ring of cartilage that surrounds the acetabulum. Labral tears can cause pain and instability and may recur for months.
Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) is a condition in which the bones of the hip have an abnormal shape and do not fit perfectly, causing damage to the cartilage and acetabular labrum. Trochanteric bursitis is an inflammatory state of the trochanteric bursa, causing intense lateral hip pain. Iliopsoas tendinopathy, difficult to diagnose, is an inflammation or injury of the iliopsoas muscle tendon, responsible for hip flexion.
Nuclear medicine must be used to diagnose hip injuries, as promptness and absolute diagnostic precision are necessary to focus on the rehabilitation and re-athletization period. Bone scintigraphy is decisive in detecting stress fractures, avascular necrosis, and inflammation. PET CT is used to assess metabolic activity in bone and soft tissue lesions, while SPECT CT combines bone scintigraphy with computed tomography for better localization of existing injuries.
